Exposing the Orphan Spirit

For me, 2025 was a year of extreme spiritual and mental warfare. Every month brought a new level of obstacles, delays, and unprecedented contention against God’s promises.

The warfare began early when I saw a post on social media that directly contradicted God’s promise for my life.

That post triggered a wave of thoughts that left me feeling heavy and deeply discouraged, shaking me to the core. I was physically and mentally drained—to the point where I didn’t even have the energy or will to pray. I knew what the Lord had spoken, but everything around me looked completely opposite to the promise. It felt almost impossible for God to come through.

After months of confusion, the Lord began to reveal something deeper: the promise had become an idol in my life. I was seeking the promise more than I was seeking the One who gave it.

Surrender and Letting Go

When I realized the promise had become an idol, I repented and entered a season of surrender. I knew I had to give the promise back to God and fix my eyes on Him, not the breakthrough.

This brought so much peace. I was reminded that it’s not by my effort or striving that the promise will come to pass, but by His Spirit, in His perfect timing, and in His way, not mine.

“Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit," says the Lord of hosts.”

—Zechariah 4:6

Doubting God’s Promise

To my surprise, even after surrendering, I still felt discontent and doubtful. I kept wondering if God was really going to do what He said.

Why was I struggling to believe? From the moment I received the promise, I had faced wave after wave of warfare, making the promise seem impossible.

Then one day, the Lord showed me the root of the doubt: an orphan spirit was operating in my life, preventing me from truly knowing Him as my Father.

What Is an Orphan Spirit?

The orphan spirit is a demonic influence that invades a person’s mind and convinces them they’ve been abandoned. It often affects those who’ve experienced deep rejection or painful past wounds.

Living with this spirit distorts our identity in Christ. Instead of walking in victory, we begin to believe the enemy’s lies, embracing abandonment, rejection, and disappointment as our portion.

These lies create strongholds in our minds, building a mental fortress that blocks us from living in the freedom Jesus purchased for us at the cross.

But these arguments can—and must—be demolished.

“We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.”

—2 Corinthians

Demolishing the Lies of the Enemy

To demolish every stronghold keeping us stuck, we must bring every negative thought and emotion captive to the obedience of Christ. We do this by declaring the Word of God over every lie of the enemy that contradicts who we are in Christ.

In my case, I was doubting that God would keep His promise in my life. To demolish that argument, I had to experience His unfailing love and receive the revelation of Him as my Heavenly Father.

To do so, I sought Him through worship, prayer, and meditating on the Word. From my personal experience, I can tell you that it is in that place of intimacy with the Lord that we receive our greatest victories, revelations, blessings, freedom, and deliverance.

The orphan spirit can no longer abide in us when we truly understand who we are in Christ, what He did for us on the cross, and that God is our Heavenly Father who loves us with an eternal, unfailing love.

God’s Word Brings Hope

One day, as I was seeking God, He brought two Bible verses to mind that completely debunked the lie I had been believing: that God would not keep His promise to me. These verses were:

  • Matthew 7:11: “If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!”

  • Numbers 23:19: “God is not human, that he should lie, not a human being, that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise and not fulfill?”

Meditating on these verses has helped me tremendously during this waiting season. Every time fear, doubt, or insecurity tries to creep in, I return to these scriptures and use them to silence the enemy’s lies.

God Will Do the Impossible!

This is the year the Lord wants to set you free. Free from your past, and free from everything that’s been holding you back, including the orphan spirit. He wants to reveal Himself to you and position you to enter the new season He has for your life.

But in order to walk into that season, we must first demolish the lies and arguments that have been keeping us stuck. Here’s how:

  1. Seek Jesus and pursue a relationship with Him through worship, prayer, and meditating on the Word of God.

  2. Use scripture to tear down the lies of the enemy that stand against God’s will for your life.

  3. Ask God for a revelation of His Paternity and His love for you; the very revelation that will set you free.

Congratulations, my friend!! As you do this, be expectant. God is going to move and do the impossible in your life this year. You are a son or daughter of God: loved, chosen, and created to do great things and testify of His goodness and faithfulness.

Hope this encouragement blessed you!

Much love,

Jackie
